Truck stops are big business. Look at Tom and Judy Love with their multi-billion-dollar fortune. The Haslam family from Tennessee is also billionaires thanks to their chain of truck stops, Pilot Flying J, which they sold to Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway in 2017 - which makes them a billionaire family with Warren Buffet to thank for a big chunk of their success. The Pilot Corporation was founded by Jim Haslam, the father of the former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. Jim Haslam was a star football player at the University of Tennessee. He was enrolled at UT in the year 1948. The national championship of 1951 was won by the Volunteers. He was a part of Sigma Chi fraternity, and was a player on the O-line. He was also second in the voting for the Heisman Trophy in his junior season. He enlisted in the Army following his graduation from college and served in Korea during the period immediately after the Korean War. After returning to Tennessee after the war, he landed an employment with Fleet Oil. After a year after which he was promoted to director of the brand new Sail Oil chain. Haslam quit Sail in 1958 and began his own company.
