Peter Brian Hegseth was born June 6th, 1980. He is an American TV host writer, author, and Army National Guard officer. He was also the former executive director of two of the political advocacy groups Vets For Freedom (now Concerned Veterans for America). The latter is a conservative-leaning advocacy group that is funded by the Koch brothers, is a proponent of more privatization of the Department of Veterans Affairs.He was thought to be the head of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs during the Trump administration, however in January of 2017, David Shulkin was selected instead.Hegseth has been active in conservative and Republican politics since his days as an student at Princeton University. In 2016, he came out as a staunch supporter and ally of Donald Trump's presidential bid and was an advisor on occasion to Trump throughout his presidency. According to reports, he persuaded Trump that three American soldiers who were convicted or charged with violations of the law in relation to the killing of noncombatants in Iraq could be forgiven. Hegseth was an Guantanamo bay platoon leader during his military service and was a defender of the treatment of detained inmates.
