Dragon Ball is an Japanese media series that was established in 1984 by Akira Toriyama. The first manga, illustrated and written by Toriyama, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1995, with the 519 chapters compiled into 42 tankobon volumes by the publisher Shueisha. Dragon Ball was originally inspired by the classic 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West, as well as elements of Hong Kong martial arts films.Additionally, Dragon Ball is an anime TV meta-series.
